The importance of the Weatherbys NTR Angrove goal is to breed coloured racehorses and be No 1 for colour and blood!

In order for Horses to be eligible to race in the UK, Horses need to have a sire and dam registered either in the GSB or the NTR register.

Ricco is a registered sire in the NTR Stud Book, Angrove Stud offers you the opportunity of registration in the NTR using the Covering certificate that this status allows, and the progeny of such a mating of register mares can race under rules in the UK.

There are warmbloods which need improving through breeding in thoroughbred bloodlines; the thoroughbred adds quality, stamina, elegance and gracefulness a good head a bold eye an expressive disposition the modern warmblood has a very high percentage of TB.

We believe that this thoroughbred addition increases the intelligence of the horse, and its ability to react quickly and get out of trouble, It is also very desirable to have the addition of Tobiano / skewbald/Piebald featured and added into the TB so future warmblood breeders can constantly improve, As The great Samber was half TB, if it works for the Dutch it will work for other  European & UK breeds.

Ricco makes History

Dear Heather

Congratulatons on your recent run of horse DNA test colour results. As you are aware, the Tobiano Homozygous horse is a highly desirable breeding specimen, it has inherited the Tobiano gene and coat pattern from both parents, and therefore when bred is guaranteed to produce 100% Tobiano patterned foals (Piebald or Skewbald) regardless of the mate.

Although the Tobiano Homozygous horse is not massively rare, it is indeed sought after and often purpose bred. The case of your test results are however slightly more special, when two NON Homozygous horses are bred together, such as the parents of your foals, the offspring only have a 25% chance of being Homozygous themselves. It was a stroke of fortune that this happened just once, to happen twice in a row was certainly unsual, but to happen three times really is extraordinary. The likelihood of this happening three times was 1.56%.

In simple terms, the odds of your non-Homozygous horses to breed three out of three true-breeding coloured foals, in a row, were 1 in 64.
Thanks again for submitting the samples, and please feel free to contact us if you have any further queries.Best Wishes Dan Reeves

We dont believe in % as they can be confusing.
Example take 2 stallions with a 85% fertility rate.
what this does not tell you is how many cycles in took to get mares in foal.
Stallion 1= 85% fertility on 2 cycles 2 seasons. 8 weeks aprox at stud.
Stallion 2 =85% fertility on 4 cycles 14 weeks at Stud same result but the costs to mare owners are significantly different. keep fees and vets bills.
